This week Jacob & Rachel discussed the residence hall component of New Start during our New Start Family Chat.  You can find the full recording on the New Start site using the link below.  We figured this is the perfect time to go over some hall basics as we inch closer to the summer.

How is priority set for housing?

We have 100 spaces in Pueblo de la Ciénega this summer, and we prioritize availability based on proximity and application submission.  Students attending from outside Pima County are first priority.  Remaining spaces are then allocated to students from Pima County who indicated interest in living in the hall based on the day they submitted their New Start application.

When will I know if I have guaranteed housing?

We will send out the first round of housing guarantees on April 15, and a second round after the application closes on May 16.  To reserve your space, you will simply respond to the hall move-in invitation before May 19.  Those who do reserve by May 19 will then be removed from the housing list and open spaces will be offered to those next in priority.

When do I move in?

Hall move-in will happen on Saturday, June 7, 2025 between 8:00 am and 2:00 pm.  When you are invited to register for move-in, you will be asked to select a timeslot to help space out everyone's arrival and maximize our staff's ability to support you.  We understand that this can be a stressful time, and sometimes families are not able to arrive at the time they planned--and this is okay.  If you are running behind, simply give us a call.

What should I bring?

Housing & Residential Life has a great guide they provide to all students moving into residence halls in the fall.  You can use this as a guide (page 9 has a great checklist), but also remember you will only be in the hall for 6 weeks and their guide is for students staying the entire academic year.  This list is also just a collection of recommendations, and each student will have needs specific to their situation.  If you have any questions, always feel free to contact the New Start team.
