About the FAFSA for New Start

We know that financial aid can be confusing, but we're here to help!

To be considered for New Start financial aid and maximize this to your benefit, we ask you to complete two FAFSAs: the 2023-2024 and the 2024-2025 FAFSAs. As an incoming freshman, you must complete the 2023-2024 FAFSA for summer financial assistance and the 2024-2025 FAFSA for financial aid during the academic year. Applying for financial aid is FREE using the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

>> The school code for The University of Arizona is 001083 <<

The FAFSA is available from the financial aid office at any university or college, your high school counselor's office or online at the FAFSA website. In order to receive your financial aid in a timely manner, please complete both the 2023-2024 and 2024-2025 forms by April 1, 2024. The 2024-2025 FAFSA must be completed by April 1 in order to make sure that you are considered for the most possible aid for your Fall and Spring semesters. The 2023-2024 FAFSA is used for summer aid. It is also very important that you keep an eye on UAccess Student Center in case you are flagged for Federal Verification. If this is the case, this verification would need to be completed prior to receiving your aid.

To get a head start on the 2024-2025 FAFSA, be sure to create your FSA ID! You will need this to log in.

Any Pell grant money that you are awarded for you to attend the New Start Summer Program should not affect the financial aid you will receive for your 2024-2025 FAFSA your first year. Per the U.S. Department of Education, students can receive Pell grants for the undergraduate degree for up to 12 semesters, which is roughly 6 years of school. For Federal Aid purposes, New Start counts as one semester.

HELPFUL FAFSA TIPS

Even though you will complete your FAFSAs while you are still in high school, there are some questions you may need to answer based on your status when you begin the New Start Summer Program. Below are helpful tips for those questions:

Q:"What will your high school completion status be?"

A: Please answer, "High School Diploma" on BOTH FAFSAs, even though the prior application refers to your senior year.

Q: "What will your grade level be at the start of the _____ year?"

A: Please select "First Year Undergraduate" for both forms, even though the prior application refers to your senior year of high school.
