New Start
What's the Plan?
New Start is a full-day program designed to support your transition into college and welcome you to the Wildcat Community. The program focuses on building academic strategies and skills that will help you succeed at the institution. All components of New Start are required and intentionally designed to give you the strongest possible start to your college experience.
UNIV 101
All New Start students will start their day with UNIV 101: Introduction to the General Education Experience. This course helps you understand the value of the General Education experience at the University of Arizona, connect with undergraduate students and learning through building your educational portfolio.
Applied STEAM Learning
Following UNIV 101, all students will complete Applied STEAM Learning developed to support academic skills building and college readiness. The STEAM learning will focus on building skills that will support you during the program and beyond New Start into your first year and beyond.
Study Tables & Parallel Programming
In the afternoon, students will be able to dive more into the concepts that they're learning through Study Tables and other various parallel programming.
Fridays
On Fridays, there will be additional programming to get you connected to campus and the community around Tucson. Anything from an Involvement Fair to an Athletic Tour, we've got you covered!
Peer Mentor Support
Throughout the program, you will receive Peer Mentor support in groups and 1:1 interactions. The Peer Mentor groups will focus on everything from time management skills to focusing on your purpose and goals for your collegiate journey.
Peer Mentor groups are dedicated time that you can connect with other peers participating in the New Start program and begin to build your network of support on campus.
